Russian satellites

Russian Satellites of Television Broadcasting

One can say that the Russian (former Soviet) satellite television has been in existence since late sixties, from the time of beginning of the "Orbita" system's development. Since mid seventies they started to introduce to the geostationary orbit "Horizont" satellites, which up to the present time have been the basis of the Russian Space Television System. All these satellites are on the balance of the State Enterprise "Kosmicheskaya Svyaz" (Space Communication), which exercises control, management and distribution of broadcasting capacities. Work is also being carried out to develop the satellite system and to replace the satellite by more advanced ones.
